理雅各译为“I had just now lost myself ”。他对该句加了注释：
“He had lost himself”；that is，he had become unconscious of all around him，and even of himself.as if he were about to enter into the state of “an Immortal”，a mild form of the Buddhistic samadhi.But his attitude and appearance were intended by Kwang-tzu to indicate what would be the mental condition in reference to the inquiry pursued in the Book；—a condition，it appears to me，of agnosticism.[47]
理雅各能把南郭子綦练功的状态和佛教的三摩地联系起来，对读者颇有启发，可是结尾给庄子扣了个“不可知论”的帽子。
